If you are trying to complete the “Discover Japan” journal entry in Forza Horizon 6, the Kitayama Big Daisugi location can be a little confusing at first. The map does not clearly label it, and if you are just driving around normally, it is easy to miss the exact spot that triggers the photography challenge.
After spending some time exploring the area myself, I found that the location is actually pretty simple once you know what landmarks to look for.
Where to Find Kitayama Big Daisugi
The Kitayama Big Daisugi photography spot is located on the western side of the main island, in the upper half of the Ito region.
The easiest way to find it is to start from the Ito Airfield and head northeast. You should eventually see a forest area with dirt trails running through the middle of it. This is the correct zone.
The forest stands out because the cedar trees look very different from the rest of the map. They are extremely tall and have the distinctive pruned “Big Daisugi” appearance. Once you enter this forest, you are basically in the right place.
Map Location & Directions
Here are the easiest directions I found:
- Start near the Ito Airfield
- Drive northeast toward the rural farmland area
- Look for an off-road trail cutting through the center of the forest
- Continue driving along the dirt path until the tall cedar trees become obvious
You do not need to reach a specific tiny marker on the map. The trigger area is fairly generous as long as you are inside the forest section with the large trees.
How to Complete the Photo Challenge
To complete the “Discover Japan” entry, open photo mode anywhere along the central off-road trail inside the forest.
The challenge usually triggers as long as:
- The tall cedar trees are clearly visible
- Your car is somewhere inside the forest area
- The camera frame captures enough of the distinctive trees
I originally thought I needed a very precise angle, but that was not necessary. The game seems fairly forgiving here compared to some other photography challenges.
If the challenge does not trigger immediately, try repositioning slightly deeper into the forest and take another photo.
What Makes This Location Special
One thing I really liked about this area is how different it feels from the rest of the map. The forest has a unique atmosphere, especially during rainy or foggy weather.
The Big Daisugi trees are inspired by real Japanese cedar cultivation techniques, which gives this location a more authentic look compared to standard forest areas in the game.
It is also one of the better places in the Ito region for off-road cruising if you enjoy rally or dirt-focused cars.
Bonus Unlockables Nearby
There is another useful secret nearby that many players miss the first time through.
If you continue following the off-road trail past the forest, you can eventually spot a hidden barn area off to the right side path. This becomes important later once you reach the “Master Explorer” level in the Collector’s Journal.
Unlocking that barn rewards you with the legendary 1983 Nissan #11 Tomica Skyline Turbo Super Silhouette, which is one of the cooler collector cars in the game.
So even if you are only visiting for the photo challenge, it is worth exploring the nearby trails before leaving the area.
